Evinrude E-Tec motors

Evinrude E-Tec motors do not need maintenance for the first three years or 300 miles of normal recreational use, including oil, oil filter, and gearcase lube changes.

The new product line of Evinrude E-Tec outboard engines are more lightweight than previous Evinrude models, start more easily, run more quietly, provide better fuel economy and lower emissions, and use their own patented low-friction design resulting in smooth power and performance.

Easy Tips for Proper Boat Maintenance

You could purchase the world’s toughest boats, but it doesn’t mean that you can get away without taking care of it.  To keep your vessel sea worthy, you have to put a little bit of elbow grease and care into your boat.  Here are some easy tips:

Cleaning & Care
Wash your boat regularly. Not only does routine cleaning facilitate a more pleasant and organized environment, but it also goes a long way towards counteracting the long-term effects of environmental wear and tear. Waxing and use of anti-fouling paint can also help protect your boat from the elements.

Checklists
Keep a checklist that includes everything from boat motor maintenance and winterization to boat trailer maintenance.

Proper Mooring
One of the most common ways a boat can start to show scratches and damage is not only from when it’s in use, but from when it’s being docked. Make sure lines are securely fastened in place, neatly coiled and do not show signs of breakage.

Battery Care
Depending on the type of battery your boat uses, check to ensure that it is properly charged and that it has the correct fluid levels. Also be sure to keep your battery clean, as dampness and dirt can also drain your battery.

Electrical Components
Many boating failures occur as a result of corroded electrical systems, so keeping electrical components dry should be a regular part of your boat maintenance routine.

Consider a Boat Cover
Making an investment in a boat cover can help keep your boat clean and free of a variety of contaminants that aren’t just related to dirt or water, falling leaves and bird droppings can also cause a lot of damage if left unchecked.

C-Dory 26′ Venture - Description

March 19, 2008 Author: BoatMaster

C Dory Venture 26′This new model from C-Dory boats features a deeper V and a little more deadrise which provides smoother riding in the open water. It is made with high-density foam, fiberglass and resin.

Maneuverability at speed is balanced and predictable, even in heavy seas. The boat holds her course with little effort. The hull’s near flatness toward the stern and reverse chines greatly reduces the rolling motions, making cruising in rough water much more pleasant. Fishermen will love the way the boat tracks at trolling speeds, allowing the focus to remain on the fishing. And with only 8” of draft and a thick bottom she can easily be beached or anchored for beach combing adventures.

C Dory VThe cabin with over 6’4” of headroom provides cozy shelter. It features a comfortable seating, sleeping area & pilot’s station with excellent all-around visibility. Our Venture models are fully lined with marine foam insulation and covered with marine vinyl.

The cabin layout is simple. On port side of the isle there is a collapsible table that levels for a bunk. A forward facing seat facing toward the table and a reversable seat on the front end of the table. On the starboard side is a full galley with helm, sink, stove a place for a 2.7 cubic foot refrigerator and standup head and shower. Plenty of storage is found in the cabin. The forward section of the cabin features a 6’4” “V” double berth, two reading lights, a large deck hatch and a privacy curtain which provides seperation from the rest of the cabin.

Cushions are made of high quality foam covered with durable ‘Sunbrella’ boat canvas. The colors coordinate with the exterior trim. All of the cushions can be removed so the interior can be cleaned easily.

The electrical system provides spare switches fuse holders and ground terminals for additional accessories.

The windows are Diamond Sea Glaze safety glass in aluminum frames that are powder coated to match the color of the boat. Electric wipers are standard. Side windows slide open and have screens, together with the large forward deck hatch and the standard center opening window the cabin can be amply ventilated.

All deck hardware is stainless steel and through bolted. The top deck is a very healthy 3/4” thick. Deck hardware includes (5) through bolted SS cleats 4 of which are mounted at a 45 degree angle. Downriggers or other equipment requiring a sturdy mount base can be bolted on any top-walking surface. The bow rail and handholds on the top and rear of the cabin are also through bolted.

Both the cockpit sole and the top walk decks have a very aggressive nonskid. The surface is a molded in diamond pattern.

The 26′ C-Dory Venture comes standard with a 100 gallon fuel system located under the motor well. In between the fuel tanks there is a 1100 GPH Automatic bilge pump.

The motor well can accommodate a matched pair of twin motors or a large main & small auxiliary motor package. C-Dory is a strong promoter of the 4 stroke outboards and the latest technology in 2 stroke motors.

Maximum power is 200Hp. Generally you will find 15 to 20 MPH to be most comfortable. The boat planes quickly (9-10 MPH) and without the bow rising high obstructing vision ahead.

Quieter Engines more Fuel Efficent?

 Evinrude Outboard Motor Test

Outboard Engines: 38% more fuel efficient, quieter and better for the environment

A recent study of outboard motors yielded evidence that quieter motors are also more fuel efficient as well as better for the environment.  The test was run on a 1988 Evinrude outboard motor versus a 2008 Evinrude outboard motor.  The results of the test were as follows:

A comparison of the two engines:

  • The 2008 motor was 38% more fuel efficient than the 20-year old version
  • Based on Friday’s fuel prices at the dock, this equates to a savings of $16 per hour
  • The most startling difference between the two motors was when both were started – the 2008 hummed quietly as it warmed up, while the 1988 motor gargled and spewed smoke and fumes for several minutes

Trailers

Learn more about C Dory boats, boat trailers and complete boat service at Bulldog!

Boat TrailersThere are many kinds of trailers, steel, aluminum, galvanized, anodized, painted, with brakes, without brakes, float on, winch on, with rollers, with bunks, and so on. Which one is right for you? First look around, what do the others in your area use most? There may be a good reason. If you boat in salt water, you pretty much have to use an aluminum or galvanized trailer if you want it to last. If you boat only in freshwater a painted trailer is OK.

If your boat is light (under 2000 pounds fully loaded), then you probably only need a single axle trailer. If your boat is over 2500 pounds fully loaded, then dual axles (4 tires), and brakes are a good idea. Check your state’s laws, you might have to have brakes.

Trailer brakes come in three types. Electric brakes, which are controlled from a controller in the car, some folks don’t like them because the claim that they are more subject to rust (I have not seen that). Hydraulic brakes come as either old style drum brakes, or new style disk brakes. The Stainless Steel disk brakes seem to be gaining in popularity, since they are simple, have few moving parts, and provide very positive stopping.

Both use hydraulic cylinders that are part of the hitch. As the car slows and the boat pushes against the hitch, it activates the brakes in proportion to the force. Unlike electric brakes there doesn’t need to be any wiring or modification to the car (you don’t need a specially rigged car to tow a trailer with hydraulic brakes). However, if you have disk brakes it is advisable to have a reverse lockout, the disables the brakes when you back up. Otherwise the brakes can prevent you from backing the boat up the driveway. The lockout us a hydraulic solenoid valve that is activated by the backup lights (one extra wire).

Whatever trailer you choose, make sure that it fits your boat. It should be not only the right length, but the right width and the right weight carrying capacity (an 18′ boat can weigh 1500 to almost 4000 pounds). Also it is very important to have the trailer adjusted to support the boat properly, both to protect the hull and to secure it properly.

Complete Inventory

February 6, 2008 Author: BoatMaster

C-DoryI was really excited when I saw you guys had such a huge inventory of boats for sale.  With how quickly you sell them I don’t know how you do it!  The selection is ample and the help very experienced.  It was pretty tempting to browse through your lot and see so many boats I’d love to have.

I was particularly impressed with the fair pricing.  Although there were a couple of boats outside of my price range there were plenty of options for something economical.  With everything you guys know and how helpful you are to folks like me it’s no surprise that everyone I talk to sends me your way.  Thanks again and see you soon!
